NASA contest for schoolchildren

GUNTUR: Students in their classes 5 to 7 and 8 to 10 can participate in an essay competition being organised by the United States NASA organisation in association with Planetary Society India Organizing Committee.

The competition named “NASA Cassini Scientist for A Day” India Contest- 09 with technical support of Cassini People Outreach Division at NASA.

Those students in their classes 5 to 10 with knowledge or interest to learn about Planet Saturn and the Cassini - Huygens mission of NASA can participate, the society release said here on Tuesday.

Students imagining themselves as Mission Scientist need to write an essay of 500 words. For this students are given three target images.

Students have to choose any one target and write the essay with - Reasons for selection of that target; What he/she expects to find; and Why he/she thinks selected target was an effective choice as a scientist for a day.

Winners will get an opportunity to interact with scientists of NASA.

Name of the winning students will be published in the NASA website while recognising students as “Cassini Scientist for a Day” from India.

They will participate in direct videoconference with current/former NASA scientists.

The society said that it had been observed that there were number of websites providing information on Planet Saturn, Cassini Mission.
