Health, sanitation tops Left parties poll agenda

Hyderabad: The Left parties poll manifestos for GHMC elections lay emphasis on improving facilities at Primary Health Centres, improving public transport system, supply of safe drinking water and development of old city under special package.

The Congress government boasts of development in the city but citizens are suffering from dengue, chikungunya, swine flu and other viral fevers. Majority of the PHCs that are housed in dilapidated buildings are operated without doctors, nurses and medical facilities. It is high time for constructing new government hospitals in each Assembly constituency in the city, says CPI (M) City Secretary P.S.N Murthy.

“Irrespective of the number of the divisions we win, we would stress on provision of basic health amenities and supply of drinking water. Our aim is to defeat Congress candidates,” says Mr. Murthy.

In tune with CPI (M), the CPI is also focussing on civic amenities like drinking water supply, better drainage system, improving public transport system by introduction of MMTS phase II and pucca houses for poor residing in 1,485 slums in the city.

The Congress government could not complete the Krishna Water phase III works and so is the case of Godavari Water works, ensuring regular water supply to citizens, charges CPI City Secretary, V.S. Bose. “Issuing white ration cards to eligible persons, development of parks, controlling dog menace, measures to improve traffic flow, top our manifesto,” he said. Blaming the Congress and MIM parties for backwardness of old city, the Left party leaders say they would lay special focus on its development. However, despite the alliance with TDP, both the parties are in fray from three divisions, including Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Baghlingampally and it would be an interesting contest.
