Junior doctors threaten strike

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Junior doctors of King George Hospital (KGH) and students of Andhra Medical College have threatened to launch a strike from Wednesday if the State Government failed to respond to their demands.

The junior doctors and medical students took out a rally on Tuesday seeking among other things hiking the stipend being paid to medical students and provision of security to junior doctors.

The striking doctors said repeated pleas to the State Government on these issues went unheeded. They said their representatives in Hyderabad were holding talks with the Government. They threatened to launch a strike if the Government doesn’t comply with the demands.

KGH Superintendent MVRJ Somayajulu said alternative arrangements have been made to prevent inconvenience to patients if the junior doctors went on strike.
