The club had built a crematorium at a cost of Rs. 80 lakhs VIZIANAGARAM: As part of welfare activities, Rotary Club, Vizianagaram, inaugurated separate modern toilet facilities for men and women and a park at SC Colony at Duppada village, near here, on Wednesday. Rotary District Governor Ch. Kishore Kumar told a press conference here that apart from it safe drinking water project that was ready would be inaugurated in a week at the colony. Already pipelines were laid and water would be supplied at 18 paise per litre to the residents in the village. Mr. Kumar said that the club had built ‘Rotary Swarga Dhamam’ (crematorium) with modern facilities in the town at a cost of over Rs. 80 lakhs. He said that club members visited flood-hit Kurnool city and distributed essentials, including rice, worth Rs. 2.90 lakhs among victims. On polio eradication, Mr. Kumar said that the Rotary International had spent Rs. 4000 crores on immunization programme and brought down the number of polio cases from 3.50 lakhs in 125 countries on the globe in 1985 to 1500 cases reported in four countries this year. In India, he said 560 cases in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Of which 12 cases were reported from Delhi, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh. Not a case was reported so far from South Indian states, he said and added that the next phase of immunization programme would be on January 10 and February 7, 2010. The club secretary Lalit Kumar Jain and other Rotarians were present.
