NEW DELHI: After examining 4,000 entries over a period of three months, Google India has chosen 10-year-old Puru Pratap Singh’s doodle as the winner of the Doodle4Google competition.

Google Doodles are creative Google logos that can be seen on the website’s homepage and are designed to commemorate scientific and artistic achievements and observe special days such as historic or seasonal events and locally celebrated occasions. These eye-catching designs often give browsers some new information about the event or the occasion. In August this year, Google India announced the Doodle4Google competition in a bid to tap the creative potential of children from Class I to X.

The children were asked to use their imagination and come up with their own version of the Google logo on the theme “My India”. The entries were judged by a panel of judges comprising cartoonist N. Ponnappa, artist K. K. Raghava and National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, faculty. Three national finalists were chosen out of 46 semi-finalists. While Gurgaon-based Puru bagged the top honours, the other two national finalists are from Bhopal and Nasik.

The winning doodle of Puru which is also being touted as the first “Made in India Google Doodle” will be on view on the Google homepage all day on November 14. In addition Puru will receive a laptop, a T-shirt embossed with his doodle and a technology grant of Rs.1 lakh for his school. Puru, a Class IV student at Amity International School, Gurgaon, is a child of many talents. Besides winning several art-based competitions, he has been given the all-rounder award by his school.
