Aid flows in for flood victims

Udhagamandalam: The flow of relief materials from voluntary organisations, service agencies and other sectors to the flood affected people in various parts of the Nilgiris received a boost on Thursday.

The Nilgiris chapter of the World Vision, India made arrangements to distribute provisions, blankets etc. worth about Rs. 3.64 lakh to over 180 families in 11 settlements including Bharathi Nagar, Ambikapuram, Pazhathottam, Chinna Karumbalam, Katteri and Vasuki Nagar.

On behalf of the organisation, Union Minister A. Raja distributed the items to the beneficiaries at Selas. World Vision Area Coordinator Vetriselvan John said that wherever possible shelter would be provided to those who had been rendered homeless by the heavy rain and landslides.

S. Palanisamy, General Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Coimbatore Region, and the bank’s Officers’ Association donated 300 bed sheets. Bhakther Solomon, Chief Executive Officer, Development Promotion Group, Chennai donated 250 bed sheets.

Members of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, accompanied by members of the Nilgiris Chamber, visited relief centres and distributed packets containing clothes, vessels and blankets.
