Para-glider from Ukraine rescued after six days
Staff Correspondent
SHIMLA: Forty-eight-year-old Ukrainian para-glider Igor who was reported missing six days ago from the Billing para-gliding site in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh has been rescued, according to police sources here.
“Igor has been found alive and rescued. A special helicopter hired by his family was deployed to know his whereabouts. The rescue team found him on a Dhauladhar hill,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Palampur) Rakesh Singh. Igor took off from Billing for Bir and lost his way because of strong winds and was reported missing since November 5. He was located on Wednesday when a rescue team saw smoke emerging from a hill, which was a signal given by Igor.
Russian para-glider Alexey Ashurov has also been reported missing from the same site since October 23. His whereabouts are still not known.
Another Russian para-glider, Elliyayudin, was found dead at Tang, a remote area in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, on October 27.
The State Government has asked para-gliders not to undertake this adventure sport any more without proper safety measures.
