Indian challenge ends

Hong Kong: Jwala Gutta suffered twin defeats in the mixed doubles and the women’s doubles categories to crash out as the Indian challenge ended in the Hong Kong Super Series tournament here on Thursday.

Jwala and her doubles partner Ashwini Ponappa suffered a 9-21, 10-21 defeat against third-seeded Chinese Jing Du and Yang Yu in the second round.

The 26-year-old Indian later paired up with V. Diju in the mixed doubles but lost 29-27, 13-21, 18-21 to the English duo of Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg.

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas lost their second round match 17-21, 21-17, 13-21 to the sixth-seeded Indonesian pair of Alven Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan. — PTI
