Pressing their demand: Junior doctors staging a dharna at MGM Hospital in Warangal on Friday. —

WARANGAL: The services at the MGM Hospital remain paralysed as junior doctors continued their strike for the fourth day on Friday.

The junior doctors, however, attended to emergency cases but abstained from routine work such as outpatient section. They staged a demonstration at the hospital and presented a skit highlighting their plight.

APJUDA Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) general secretary T. Rajanikanth said they were demanding enhanced stipend.

“We are rendering services on a par with regular doctors of the hospital and hence, we need to be paid more stipend,” he said.

They demanded the State government to revise stipend for house surgeons from Rs. 5,060 to Rs. 12,000 per month and Rs. 8,300 to Rs. 30,000 for PG students.

For super specialists, they wanted the stipend to be revised from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 36,000 per month.

There are 950 junior doctors attached to the KMC and MGM Hospital in the district.

MGM Hospital is the biggest facility available for people in Telangana region after State capital. In view of the increased number of cases of dengue and other viral fevers, the strike by the doctors is causing inconvenience to the poor who hail from distant places.
