CUDDALORE: The Cuddalore chapter of the Tamil Nadu Retired Officials’ Association has appealed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to provide cover to its members under Star Health Insurance, as is being done for those in service. The association adopted a resolution at a special meeting held here recently with M.Kannan, State vice-president of the association, in the chair. Through another resolution, the association thanked Mr. Karunanidhi for extending benefits of the Tamil Nadu Pensioner Welfare Assistance Scheme-1995 to family pensioners, and, widowed pensioners for getting special treatment or undergoing surgery. However, the association urged the government to reduce the monthly contribution from Rs. 75 to Rs. 25 for the first category and waive it for the second category (widowed pensioners). The association also requested Mr. Karunanidhi to relax the rules regarding health benefits. For instance, it had announced that Rs. 100 would be deducted every month from the pension for enabling the pensioners to get the combined medical benefits (for both the pensioner and the spouse) worth Rs. 1 lakh. The association made a plea that the deduction should be reduced to Rs. 75 a month and Rs. 1 lakh worth of medical benefits given separately to the pensioner and spouse.
