Governments told to file affidavit

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court, comprising Chief Justice S.R. Bannurmath and Justice A.K. Basheer, on Friday directed the Union and the State governments to file an affidavit within two weeks in response to a public interest writ petition seeking a ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami. The petition was filed by Abdul Samad of Kochi.

According to him, the ideologies propounded by the organisation are anti-national. The organisation propagated extremist ideologies which are against Islamic teachings. The petitioner sought a probe into the source of funding for the organisation.

Travel concession

Acting on another petition, the Bench directed the Union government to take within six weeks a decision on a representation seeking concession in flight charges for non-resident Indians. The petition was filed by Aji Kuriakose, vice-president, Sharja Priyadarshini Arts & Social Centre.
