Kothagiri students win TCS quiz

Coimbatore: Akash Lodha and Hirent Barai of St. Jude’s Public School, Kothagiri, have emerged the winners in the TCS IT Wiz quiz organised by the Tata Consultancy Services here recently.

According to a TCS release, Sishi Kumaran and Gowtham Nachimuthu of SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School,Coimbatore, are the runners-up.

More than 800 students from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Pollachi, Sathyamangalam, Erode, Udmalpet, Mettupalayam, Udhagamandalam and Kothagiri took part in this first Coimbatore edition of TCS IT Wiz.

The quiz tested the contestants’ knowledge of computers and IT companies, their presence of mind and ability to think laterally.

The quiz, open to school students from class VIII to XII, strives to enhance IT awareness among students and keep them abreast of the latest developments in the world of IT. It focuses on the application of IT across various sectors such as the Internet and unique web sites, IT buzzwords and acronysms, IT personalia, advertisements of IT and communications companies, software products and brands, history of IT and the humorous side of IT.

Keeping pace with the changing trends in IT, the quiz had several mind-bending rounds: twittering which had topics from IT happenings across the globe, @TCS –based exclusively on TCS, tagging –a visual round, Crop IT- a round requiring speed of thought and a good bandwidth of IT, and Swods-a round where you see what others don’t see.

Nandini Rangasamy, Managing Director, Chandra Group of Companies, was the chief guest. The event was also held in Bangalore, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Kochi and Delhi during the last two months.

It will be held in Chennai, Mumbai,Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Pune.
