Diabetes registry released

Glucometers presented

VISAKHAPATNAM: A juvenile diabetes clinic was opened in King George Hospital here on Saturday to pay special attention to the patients with type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes). The programme was held to mark the World Diabetes Day as well as the Children’s Day.

Superintendent of KGH M.V.R.J. Somayajulu inaugurated the clinic while Principal of Andhra Medical College G. Bhagya Rao released a juvenile diabetes registry to record every detail of juvenile diabetics.

Dr. Somayajulu said diabetes was nowadays not a disease but a way of life, like obesity, being very tall of very short, etc. He hoped the new facility would improve the diabetes care. Dr. Bhagya Rao said awareness about diabetes and its control would arrest the problem leading to major complications. Head of the Department of Endocrinology of KGH and AMC K. Dileep Kumar who presided over the function said the clinic would function on every second and fourth Monday of the month, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. He requested specialists from other branches of medicine like cardiology, nephrology, orthopaedics, etc., to hold counselling sessions for diabetics once in a month to help the latter to understand their problems and take measures to control them.

The juvenile clinic would provide medical care, insulin, counselling on nutrition, life-style and monitor the state of juvenile diabetics.

Later, glucometers were presented to some children with diabetes. Assistant Professor A. Mythili and others participated.
