COIMBATORE: Everest Industries will start production of coloured roofing sheets at the Podanur Factory here soon. Rahul Chopra, Vice-President (Marketing) of Everest Industries, told The Hindu at Podanur on Thursday that the production would start next month or in January 2010. The Podanur plant had the annual capacity to produce 14,500 tonnes of roofing sheets now. This would be increased to 18,000 tonnes in a year. The plant currently made fibre cement roofing sheets, Hi-Tech roofing sheets and moulded goods. The coloured roofing to be made here would cater to country-wide supply by the company. The new product would come in a couple of metallic colours, blue, green, white and terracotta red, he said. Everest proposed to invest about Rs. 10 crore at the Podanur plant by 2010-2011. The plant currently employed about 140 people and the annual turnover of the plant was Rs. 145 crore to Rs. 150 crore. This would go up to Rs. 180 crore with the expansion. Mr. Chopra said Everest had a market share of about 30 per cent in Tamil Nadu in the fibre cement roofing sector. At the national-level, the company had 14 per cent share in this segment. It had production facilities in Kolkata, Nasik, Podanur, Madhya Pradesh and Uttaranchal. The current focus was to de-bottleneck the existing facilities and increase capacities by 20 to 25 per cent in the existing plants. It manufactured polycarbonate, metal and fibre-cement roofing, apart from boards and panels and pre-engineered buildings. The total turnover of the company in 2008-2009 was Rs. 530 crore and Everest proposed to achieve Rs. 1,000 crore turnover by 2010-2011. The roofing segment contributed Rs. 439 crore in 2008-2009.
