BJP seeks fresh probe into 26/11 attack

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party demanded a fresh probe into the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack claiming that David Headley and his accomplice T. H. Rana, who were arrested in the US, had a definite role in the dastardly incident and urged the Centre to initiate extradition proceedings against them.

At a press conference here on Saturday, BJP’s spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said till date the government had been saying that it was the handiwork of 10 terrorists and their handlers in Pakistan. What had now come to light was that Headley and Rana had a definite role in the 26/11 attack. There must have been local support with whose assistance the attack plan was worked out. “Such a dastardly attack does not happen in isolation,” he added.

If they had a role in the planned attack, there must have been some local support and that needed to be probed.

Mr. Javadekar also wanted a CBI inquiry into what he dubbed as “sugar scam.” In the beginning of the year, the government said there were huge stocks of sugar and allowed exports of 48 lakh metric tonnes at Rs.12 a kg. But now the country was importing 70 lakh metric tonnes at Rs.27 a kg. “This is the worst sugar scam the country has seen,” he quipped.

Referring rise in prices of essential commodities, he said artificial scarcity created by hoarders was responsible for the increase. Alleging that the ruling party was allowing speculators to loot the country because it had taken huge donations from them, he demanded changes in rules on hoarding stocks so that more quantities were available in the market.
