Madhurjya wins title

KOLKATA: Madhurjya Dutta of Assam bagged a double in the under-18 category of the AITA Talent series at the Cossipore Club here on Saturday.

Madhurjya fought hard to beat his doubles partner and top-seeded Harry Jindal of Chandigarh in the singles final. Harry and Madhurjya had won the doubles title on Friday.

The second-seeded Aandrita Deb defeated top seed Andrea Das to win the under-18 girls’ title while the top-seeded Shreya Das won the girls’ under-14 crown.

Vinod Kumar Sewa won the men’s open title beating the top-seeded Manoj Kumar Sewa in the BTA-ranking tournament held simultaneously at the same venue.

The veterans’ over-55 doubles title went to Dilip Kumar and Naseem Ali.

The results (finals):

Boys under-18: Madhurjya Dutta (Asm) bt Harry Jindal (Chd) 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Girls: Under-18: Aandrita Deb bt Andrea Das 6-2, 6-4.

Under-14: Shreya Das bt Priyam Periwal 6-1, 6-3.

BTA men’s open: Vinod Sewa bt Manoj Sewa 7-5, 6-2.

Veterans’ doubles over-55: Dilip Kumar & Naseem Ali bt Amiya Bhattacharyya & N.C. Mullick 6-2, 6-2. — Principal Correspondent
