BSNL 3G service in A.P. from December

Suresh Krishnamoorthy

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Circle of the State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has almost completed installation of the equipment needed to offer 3G ` on CellOne, its mobile platform sometime in December, aimed at acquiring 3.5 lakh new customers.

The circle has been allotted one slot of five megahertz for the purpose.

When the third generation service is commissioned, subscribers will virtually have the web world in their mobiles at speeds as good as those on a computer. One can take video phone snap shots, have mobile broadband, watch television through video streaming, push to talk screen shot and download music, to name a few. G.V. Reddy, General Manager, BSNL-AP (Network Planning & Execution), says the wait is just for the killer application to utilise the huge bandwidth available now that the spectrum has been allocated.

The tariff is yet to be fixed but for prepaid connections it may be as low as Rs. 100 with local voice and video call charges at around 20 paise a minute on BSNL networks and 50 paise for other networks.
