BHUBANESWAR: A number of working journalists of the Capital city on Monday staged a silent protest against the State-sponsored celebration of the National Press Day blaming the government for its alleged failure to protect freedom of the press. Wearing black badges, they stood silently outside the Jayadev Bhavan premises. A function to celebrate the National Press Day, with support of the Information and Public Relations Department of the State government was about to begin inside. The journalists were sore over the fact that a journalist in Gajapati district was languishing in R. Udaygiri jail for several months for his alleged links with Maoists and the recent attack on another journalist in Puri town.
