Ashwin Sundar. Chennai: Ashwin Sundar has been declared champion in the flagship Formula Rolon Chevrolet category of the JK Tyre National Championship after a three-member tribunal upheld his appeal against his disqualification from race one of the sixth and final round held in October. After viewing video evidence of incidents involving Ashwin and Saran Vikram in both races of the round, stewards had found the former guilty of dangerous driving and disqualified him for both. Ashwin appealed this decision, and the IMSAC (Indian Motor Sports Appeal Court) tribunal overturned the stewards’ decision for race one, in which the Speed NK Racing driver had finished third. The points accrued from that race were enough for Ashwin to draw level with Saran in the championship standings on 64 points, and take the title for his greater number of wins. However, the tribunal reinstated the stewards’ decision to disqualify Ashwin from race two, and imposed on him a three-race suspended sentence for the 2010 season. Championship Points Tally: 1. Ashwin Sundar (Speed NK Racing) 64 points, 2. Saran Vikram (Independent driver) 64 points, 3. Gaurav Dalal (Red Rooster Racing) 63 points. — Sports Reporter
