Ritesh strikes for Stanes

Coimbatore: Striker Ritesh struck four goals in Stanes AIHSS’s 6-0 win over Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Vadavalli) in the quarterfinals of the Essarpy Ponnuswamy Trophy inter-school football tournament at the Nehru Stadium here on Monday.

SRKV, CSI and Sri Gopal Naidu were the other three teams to make it to the semifinals.

The results (quarterfinals): Stanes AIHSS 6 (Joy, Ritesh 4, Tejas) bt Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Vadavalli) 0; SRKV 1 (Karthikeyan) bt Vidya Niketan 1 (Rohit) 3-1 (via tie-breaker); CSI HSS 2 (Raja, Jagan) bt Karunya IRS 1 (Alex); Sri Gopal Naidu 3 (Ramachandran, Ashwin, Varghese) bt Carmel Garden 0.

Sigappi sizzles

M. Sigappi of Youngsters Table Tennis Academy clinched the under-12, 14 and 17 girls’ singles titles in the District level table tennis tournament, sponsored by S.R Jewellery and G.S. & Co, at the YTTA Hall on Sunday.

The results (final): Boys: U-9: Nandesh (YTTA) bt Anirudh (KTVR) 11-3, 12-10, 12-10. U-12: K. Anand (YTTA) bt Nandesh 3-11, 13-11, 11-4, 13-11. U-14: Pranesh (YTTA) bt Anand (YTTA) 11-13, 13-11, 14-12, 11-9, 11-4. U-17: Pranesh bt Naresh Perumal (BMHS) 11-9, 11-6, 11-8. U-19: Gowtham (HIET) bt Pranesh 11-8, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6. U-21: Naresh Perumal bt Gowtham 6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-8.

Girls: U-12: M. Sigappi (YTTA) bt S. Varshini (YTTA) 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 4-11, 11-4. U-14: M. Sigappi bt S. Varshini 12-10, 13-11, 11-8. U-17: M. Sigappi bt D. Maheswari (YTTA) 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7. U-21: Meenakshi (PSG CAS) bt Thapasia (VLB) 6-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8.

Inter-varsity football

The South Zone and all India inter-varsity football tournaments for men, organised by the Bharathiar University, will be held at the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University and Bharathiar University grounds from November 25 to 30 and December 2 to 8 respectively.

About 1500 players from 70 universities from across the country are expected to participate.
