Sirpur Paper Mills workers caned

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: Tension prevailed in front of the Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM) at Kagaznagar on Monday evening as police resorted to caning to disperse agitating workers who physically prevented paper being transported from the factory. Contract workers in the SPM have struck work since the last 14 days demanding hike in pay.

After an attempt to transport paper had failed a few days ago, the factory management had sought police help in doing so in this instance. As two lorry loads of paper was being sent out of the main gate, the agitating workers obstructed it by lying down in front of the lorries. At this juncture police used force to remove the workers. -
