Four Inter students racing bikes hit divider; 2 killed

HYDERABAD: Two Intermediate students met a gory end while two of their classmates suffered serious injuries when the two bikes they were racing hit a divider on the Uppal-Habsiguda road on Monday.

All the four students are from Little Flower Junior College at Uppal and aged about 17 years, police said.

Two critical

Death was instant for Stephen Raju of Habsiguda whose head got smashed after the bike rammed into the median, while Ranjan Thomas of Tarnaka succumbed to wounds an hour later while undergoing treatment at Kamineni Hospital.

The condition of their classmates, Umedh and Samiullah, admitted in the same hospital, was said to be critical. They were not in a position to speak.

According to witnesses, the four teenagers started from Uppal around 2.30 p.m.

Racing with one another and revving their bikes to the maximum, they were speeding towards Tarnanka when the bikes accidentally scraped against each other after Ek Minar, lost control and crashed into the divider at a high speed, Uppal Sub-Inspector Krishnaiah told reporters.

Without helmet

None of them was wearing a helmet and such was the impact of the crash that all of them suffered multiple fractures on hitting the divider.

All minors?

According to the police, they were yet to ascertain who among the youngsters were riding the motorbikes or if any of them had driving licences.

All the students appeared to be minors.

Raju’s parents, who went to Chennai on some work, started for the city on learning about the accident.

His body was handed over to the neighbours after performing autopsy.
