Spotlight on road safety

NEW DELHI: A road safety exhibition was inaugurated at the Delhi Traffic Police Pavilion at the ongoing India International Trade Fair in Pragati Maidan here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Commissioner of Police (Administration) Neeraj Kumar underlined the importance of imparting knowledge about basic traffic rules and road safety norms to the public. He appreciated the awareness programmes being organised by the Road Safety Cell targeting various categories of road users.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. N. Shrivastava, who presided over the function, spoke about new technologies being introduced to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement in the Capital.

Mr. Kumar also released a book, “Traffic Safety Handbook for Commercial Vehicle Drivers”. Students from several schools presented cultural programmes based on road safety education.

The Road Safety Running Trophy-2009, sponsored by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers for the school enrolling maximum number of road safety patrol cadets, was presented to Bal Bhawan Public School, Mayur Vihar Phase-II. The Road Safety Trophy sponsored by the Automobiles Association of Upper India was given to Mount St. Mary’s School in Delhi Cantonment for its contribution towards road safety. Both schools were presented a cash reward of Rs.11,000 each. Several latest gadgets and technologies being used by the traffic police to ensure enhanced traffic management are on display.
