BHUBANESWAR: Commissionerate police for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack here on Tuesday claimed to have solved the case pertaining to sensational murder of jail warder in the high security zone around Jharpada Special Jail. Addressing a press conference here, Commissioner of Police Bijay Sharma said two hardcore criminals at the behest of notorious gangster Vikram Mallick, who was lodged in Jharpada jail, had fired at Manas Naik, the newly recruited warder, from point blank range. Two other criminals helped them by keeping a close watch on movement of police while the murder was being committed, said Mr. Sharma. The Commissionerate police nabbed four persons, who are allegedly involved in the crime from Mahipalpur area of New Delhi, with the help of Delhi police. Altogether nine persons were involved in executing the heinous crime and eight of them were now in police custody, said Mr. Sharma. Bhubaneswar police got four accused on three-day-long transit remand and shifted them to here by securing a special permission from bureau of civil aviation. Terror“The intention was to spread terror among jail staff ,who became strict and were not allowing gangsters to operate as they liked. Vikram Mallick from Ganjam district was particularly incensed over jail administration,” said the Police Commissioner. Disclosing that the gangster had actually targeted a senior jailor, Mr. Sharma said criminals did a reccee and shadowed the jailor for quite sometime in search of opportunity to kill him. When they failed to execute their plan on the particular day, the gangster ordered his henchmen to pick up any of new jail staff and kill him, the Police Commissioner said, adding that Manas Naik incidentally became the target. Police have seized three motorcycles, a SUV, two mousers used for killing. The Commissionerate police have launched an intense investigation to collect evidences to link up with the crime. The murder of warder had made entire police administration sit up with doubts raised on ability of jail and police authorities to rein in hardcore criminals.
