Convicted

The District Sessions Court on Friday convicted and sentenced P. Krishnasamy to undergo six months rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000 in a case relating to the verbal abuse using the caste name, assault and

criminal intimidation of a dalit community

member

According to police, on February 21, at Vadambacherry in Kamanaickenpalayam police limits,

P. Krishnasamy in an inebriated condition is said to have called the victim using caste name, abused him, assaulted him and intimidated him.

Based on a complaint, a case was registered by the Kamanaickenpalayam Police under sections 294 (b) for obscene language, 506 (ii) of Criminal Intimidation, 3 (1) (x) of Prevention of Atrocities on Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Act.

The Sessions court awarded six months rigorous imprisonment, a fine of Rs. 1,000 besides Rs. 1,000 for each count of offence.
