Three students arrested on ragging charge

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Three students of Viswesvarayya College of Engineering at Ibrahimpatnam on the city outskirts were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly ragging a first year student.

The arrested — Karthik, Rohit and Prem Kumar — were accused of harassing Dinesh by forcing him to buy them cigarettes and host a party for them, the Ibrahimpatnam Inspector, Sitaram, told reporters. Karthik is a second year student. Rohit and Prem Kumar were detained in first year having failed in the exams.

The trio allegedly had been harassing the junior for the past few days. “They used to pressurise him to buy re-charge coupons for their mobile phones also. On October 11, Karthik picked up a quarrel with Dinesh on a petty matter and slapped him,” the Inspector said. The next day, Rohit and Prem Kumar too assaulted the victim accusing him of not showing respect to them.

A case under Section 4 of Anti-Ragging Act was registered against them. The trio was arrested and produced before a local court.
