PUNE: Nicole Clerico of Italy and Anastasiya Vasylyeva of Ukraine dashed the Indian hopes in doubles, with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 victory over Sanaa Bhambri and Rushmi Chakravarthi in the semifinals of the NECC $50,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the Deccan Gymkhana here on Thursday. In singles, Nina Bratchikova of Russia knocked out the top-seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand in straight sets. The 15-year-old Uzbek Sabina Sharipova continued with her run and cruised into the semifinals. The results: Singles (quarterfinals): Nina Bratchikova (Rus) bt Tamarine Tanasugarn (Tha) 6-3, 6-2; Rika Fujiwara (Jpn) bt Varatchaya Wongteanchai (Tha) 6-1, 6-1; Bojana Jovanovski (Srb) bt Anastasiya Vasylyeva (Ukr) 5-7, 6-0, 6-4; Sabina Sharipova (Uzb) bt Chen Astrogo (Isr) 6-2, 6-3. Doubles (semifinals): Nicole Clerico (Ita) and Anastasiya Vasylyeva (Ukr) bt Sanaa Bhambri and Rushmi Chakravarthi 6-3, 1-6, 10-6; Nina Bratchikova (Rus) and Ksenia Palkina (Kgz) bt Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Varatchaya Wongteanchai (Tha) 7-5, 6-3.
