Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Congress (M) leader K.M. Mani on Thursday called for political intervention with Central assistance to bring down the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam in the backdrop of fresh leakages detected at the century-old structure. In a statement here, Mr. Mani expressed concern at the detection of three new leakages in the dam well below the permitted 136 ft storage level and wanted the government to take the initiative to get an interim order from the Supreme Court to bring down the water level, pending the final resolution of the issue by a constitution Bench of the apex court.
