Mother pushes two daughters into well, kills self

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: A 28-year-old woman allegedly pushed her two daughters into a well before jumping into it herself at Malaganahalli near Devanahalli in Bangalore Rural district early Thursday.

The police suspect desperation as Jayalakshmi’s husband Govinda, who is HIV positive, is in a critical condition. She led her daughters G. Varsha (6) and G. Bhavya (3) to the open well and pushed them in first, the Vishwanathapura police said.

Her relatives told The Hindu that she was married to Govinda, who runs a travel agency. He was treated at several places and admitted to a private hospital in Bangalore where his condition deteriorated.

On Wednesday, Jayalakshmi came to her mother’s house at Malaganahalli and was talking to her family till 2.30 a.m. The police reckon she might have left the house with her daughters later.
