Training programme in news reading

VELLORE: With more than 40 private television channels operating in Tamil Nadu, and with more than 10 channels among them offering news programmes, there is a great need for good news readers in the television industry.

A photogenic face and good voice are the basic requisites for a successful newsreader. A good trainer could impart training in other important requisites. Realising the scope of employment as newsreaders, asianewsworld.com and Eray Computer Education Center, Katpadi have jointly launched a News Reading Training Programme in Vellore.

C. Rajendran, Collector of Vellore inaugurated the programme at a function at the premises of the Eray Computer Education Centre in Katpadi on Friday. He said good voice and proper pronunciation is a must for newsreaders. It is a scientific skill, and training by experts would go a long way in improving the quality, he said.

Umapathy Krishnan, Editor, asianewsworld.com, who would be imparting the training to the students of the News Reading Training Programme, said that 22 students have been admitted for the first batch of the 3-month training programme. Classes would be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. “We plan to restrict the intake to 30”, he said. In all, there would be 24 classes, and six of them would be handled by current newsreaders in reputed TV channels from Chennai. This would include classes in make-up, proper pronunciation in Tamil, and reading style, said Mr. Umapathy Krishnan.

Kamala Gandhi, president, Viswas School for Special Children lighted the lamp. Vinod Gandhi, Managing Director, Hotel Pride Biznotel, Ranipet launched the website, asianewsworld.com. Eugini Fatima Mary, Principal, Auxilium College, Vellore, K.M.G. Rajendran, secretary, K.M.G. Educational Institutions, Gudiyatham and Indernath, secretary, Bharath Educational Institutions spoke. M. Thirumoorthy of Eray Computer Education proposed a vote of thanks.
