Rain hits play

TIRUVALLA: The Pathanamthitta-Thiruvananthapuram match was interestingly poised when rain brought a premature end to the day’s play in the South Zone under-14 inter-district cricket tournament at the Mar Thoma College stadium on Friday.

Thiruvananthapuram stumbled badly after winning the toss and electing to bat. Barring Arjun Narayanan (58) and Vishak Chandran (30 not out) none of the batsmen prospered against the host attack. The visitors were dismissed for 158 runs in 58 overs with Stanley Jose (three for 27) being the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, the host was 109 for five when heavy rain stopped play after tea.

At Municipal stadium, Alappuzha was 73 for four when rain stopped play.

The scores: Thiruvananthapuram 158 in 58 overs (Arjun Narayanan 57, Stanley Jose three for 27) v Pathanamthitta 109 for five in 30 overs (Prashob R. Pillai 48).

Alappuzha 73 for four in 31 overs (Vishnu Raju 35 n.o.) v Kottayam.
