Bijapur: People of Badi Kaman area here staged a rasta roko on Friday in protest against the “failure” the Bijapur City Municipal Council (CMC) to provide them amenities.

They raised slogans against the elected representatives and the CMC authorities for not solving their problems despite several pleas.

Addressing the protesters, Arif Nagtan of Badi Kaman said that people of the locality were depending on borewells and tankers for drinking water as the CMC supplied water once in a month.

When the matter was brought to the notice of the CMC authorities, they promised to ensure proper supply of drinking water after repairing the leaks in the main distribution line. But even after six months, water supply had not improved in their locality.

He said that the authorities should construct an overhead tank in their area to ensure proper supply of water and initiate stringent action against those who had illegal tap connections.

He said that the people of the locality would intensify their agitation if the authorities did not take steps to solve their problems at the earliest.
