Applications invited for social responsibility awards

ARIYALUR: The district administration has invited applications from industrial, service and business organisations for Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2009-10.

The awards instituted by the State Government for the organisations that are involved in various social and economic uplift activities in Tamil Nadu are given to five establishments every year. An award consists of Rs.5 lakhs cash prize and a certificate each, according to a press release issued here today by Collector T. Abraham.

Companies, partnership firms, sole-proprietorship firms and government / quasi government undertakings as well as associations of industrial, service and business organisations can apply for the award. They may operate directly or through Trusts / NGOs / other agencies. While awards will predominantly be conferred for good works undertaken in the area of rural development, commendable works in urban areas, especially in slums, will also be considered. Also, activities such as promotion of agriculture; animal husbandry; education; health; sanitation; water supply; water harvesting; non-conventional energy; agricultural marketing; self help groups and livelihood; women, children and youth welfare; and tree plantation will be considered for conferment of the award. Eligible institutions may send their application with complete details and supporting documents either to the District Collector, or to the Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Panagal Building, Saidapet, Chennai – 600 015 on or before December 31, 2009.
