Rosaiah inaugurates Aurobindo Pharma unit VII formulations at Polepally

MAHABUBNAGAR: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Friday said Andhra Pradesh led other States in the setting up of pharmaceutical industries and exporting pharma products.

He inaugurated Aurobindo Pharma unit VII formulations at AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation’s Special Economic Zone at Polepally in the district.

“We export Rs. 20,000 crore worth of pharma products, accounting for 40 per cent of the country’s exports,” he said and went on to add that the State capital had turned into a hub for pharma activity and exports. He said A.P. should compete with Gujarat, a State that was industrially-developed. However, A.P. was number one in establishing the maximum number of SEZs, he said, recalling that 70 SEZs out of a total of 335 coming up in the country were located here. With 40 SEZs already operational, they had created employment to about 60,000 people, he stated.

He informed that a knowledge-based R&D centre was being opened in University of Hyderabad. The dream of the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had turned real with the inauguration of Aurobindo’s unit at Polepally SEZ. “In fact, he should have been inaugurating this unit,” Mr. Rosaiah said.

He said a facility of Hetero Drugs too was getting ready at Polepally with an investment of Rs. 500 crore.

Mr. Rosaiah said the misconception over Polepally SEZ would come to an end with the inauguration of pharma units, as over 5,000 people would get jobs once all pharma companies in the SEZ started functioning. “People opposing SEZ should take note of this fact,” he said.David Simmovs, President of the multi-national company Pfizer, expressed happiness over Aurobindo Pharma becoming its partner.
