TAMBARAM: A portion of the walls of a few houses and some household appliances were damaged following a heavy lightning strike in Kurinji Nagar, Perungalathur, near Tambaram early on Friday morning.
Residents of Kurinji Nagar Fourth Cross Street said there was heavy lightning at 2.45 a.m. The compound wall of a few houses on the street also suffered damage. Following a call to local office of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, power supply was disconnected.
The residents told reporters that the problem occurred around the same time last year too. A section of them alleged that a cell phone tower in their area did not have proper lightning arresters due to which the lightning fell on houses. TNEB engineers said the charges could not be ascertained immediately.
They said that power supply was restored in the morning after a complete check of wiring in the affected houses and also transformers in the local distribution system.
