CUTTACK: The 110th birth anniversary of the former Orissa Chief Minister and founder-president of Orissa Olympic Association ‘Utkal Keshari’ Harekrushna Mahatab was celebrated here on Saturday. The celebration was marked with plenty of programmes and sporting activities as part of the homage to the legendary sports organisation of the State. On this occasion, the OOA organised a mini-marathon in which more than 600 schoolchildren participated with enthusiasm. Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy flagged off the marathon from the majestic ninth century Barabati Fort. The marathon ended at Barabati Stadium, right in front of the statue of Mahatab. Similarly, a memorial meeting in honour of the leader was held at Barabati guest house in the morning in which the legendary leader’s son and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahatab, local legislator Debashis Samantray, Mahatab memorial committee secretary Ramakanta Mishra and Banki MLA attended as guests. The winners of the marathon were felicitated on the occasion and were awarded prizes by the distinguished guests. Elsewhere in the city and other places in the State, Mahatab Jayanti was observed with various cultural and sporting activities.
