HASSAN: The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda will lead a protest against load shedding here on Monday. Legislators, members of zilla, taluk and gram panchayats and town and city municipal councils and activists of various political parties will stage a dharna in front of the Chamundeswari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESE) in Hassan. Disclosing this on Friday, Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Revanna said when he was Power Minister in the H.D. Kumaraswamy Government, there was no load shedding even during summer. Power generation was 130 million units a day then. Now it had come down to 118 million units a day. The BJP Government, which imposed power cut in January 2009, was continuing it. Even during monsoon, there was load shedding, he said. Mr. Revanna said that the five electricity supply companies had incurred a total loss of Rs. 5000 crore and this was stated in the petition filed by the State Government before the KERC. BESCOM made a profit of Rs. 400 crore when he was Power Minister, he added. When the State Government announced that it would sign a memorandum of understanding with the Chhattisgarh Government, “we thought we will get electricity at a concessional price, but the Government is purchasing it at Rs. 10.50 per unit”.
