‘Ensure adequate supply of goods to cardholders’
Staff Reporter
NAMAKKAL: Minister for Food A.V. Velu has instructed the officials to ensure adequate supply of goods to all the family cardholders in Namakkal district under the public distribution system (PDS).
Participating in a review meeting held in the district recently, the Minister said that a large number of people in the State were purchasing essential commodities at the fair price shops. It is duty of the officials to ensure sufficient supply of goods to the cardholders.
Officials who are supervising the shops should keep track of the stocks in the shops.
The salesmen were instructed to update the stock level via short message service. The reports on stock should be submitted periodically to the department and frequent reviews should be conducted. If shops were found not having adequate stock of goods, steps should be initiated immediately to transport the goods.
If the quality of the goods was found poor, the officials should replace them immediately. Inspections should be carried out in all the fair price shops in regular intervals, he said.
Shops which were having more than 1600 cardholders could be bifurcated. This would ensure speedy supply of goods to the cardholders under the PDS, he added.
