Municipal Chairperson, Rathika Devi is not sure as to who consulted the numerology expert and how the proposed change in spelling “Sivakaasi” was arrived at
A cracker manufacturing unit in Sivakasi. SIVAKASI: The Sivakasi Municipal Council on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution to change the spelling of the town to “Sivakaasi” on Friday. “The addition of one more ‘a’ to the name is (an attempt) to bring more prosperity to the town,” said municipal Chairperson, K. Rathika Devi. More than adding prosperity to the town, the council, like a section of the people, is concerned about the frequent accidents at cracker units in and around the town and has chosen the path of numerology to put an end to fatal accidents. “Industrialists here are affected by the fire accidents. We have been receiving requests from various quarters (residents) to change the name. We kept the proposal in abeyance for the last two years. Now, we thought that the decision should be left to the people (elected representatives) and tabled it in the council,” Dr.Rathika Devi said. Twenty-nine out of 33 councillors present at meeting passed the resolution without any objection. Dr.Rathika Devi is not sure as to who consulted the numerology expert and how the proposed change in spelling was arrived at. “I have to look into the file,” she said. Though the Chairperson claimed that she did not believe in numerology, she said she wanted to give it a try. “After all it is for the betterment of the town,” she said. The resolution would be sent to the State Government for its approval. It is to be seen whether the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government will give a go ahead for the change in the spelling for the sake of prosperity of ‘Kutti Japan.’
