NEW DELHI: Five young men, including three teenagers, have been arrested in South Delhi for alleged involvement in robberies. According to the police, they would target people by offering them a lift in their vehicle and then rob them. Thommy John, a cargo officer at Indira Gandhi International Airport here, lodged a complaint with the police alleging that in the early hours of this past Wednesday he was waiting for a cab when a car stopped near him. The four occupants of the vehicle offered to drop him at South Extension for Rs.30. After travelling some distance, one of them whipped out a knife and robbed Mr. John of his wrist watch, mobile phone, purse containing Rs.1,000 and a credit card. They then dumped him near the Palam railway crossing. Suspecting that the gang had been operating on National Highway-8, the police mounted a hunt and traced the car used in the offence at Shiv Murti. The occupants, identified as Monu (22), Surjeet (19), Bhallad (19) and Deepak (19), were arrested after they purportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. At their instance, the police arrested the fifth accused, Sonu (22). During interrogation, Monu purportedly disclosed that he was working as the driver of a car attached to a call centre.
