Drive to clear roads of stray cattle
Staff Reporter
Collector warns cattle-owners that penalty would be slapped
PUDUKOTTAI: In an intensive drive to clear the thoroughfares and highways of stray cattle, municipal employees trapped on Saturday, a total of 120 cows and bullocks in different parts of the town as well as the peripheral areas.
The animals were not only a source of menace, hindering the free flow of traffic, but were also posing a grave threat resulting in road mishaps.
The District Collector, A. Suganthi, last week, referring to the need for implementing road safety measures in the town, had appealed to the cattle-owners to make their own arrangements to breed them.
She had also warned that the stray cattle would be taken to the cow-shed and penalty would be slapped on the owners.
Municipal staff, divided into teams, launched a drive simultaneously in different parts of the town and trapped the animals found straying in throroughfares on the Main Roads, near the New and Old Bus stand areas, the Tirumayam Road.
The animals were taken to the cattle shed.
