Bihar doctors call off strike

Shoumojit Banerjee

PATNA: Patients across Bihar breathed a sigh of relief as the Junior Doctors’ Association on Saturday announced their willingness to call off their strikefollowing written assurances given by the State Human Rights Commission.

Nearly 1,000 junior doctors of the Patna Medical College Hospital and the Darbhanga Medical College Hospital have been on a strike since November 10 demanding a raise in their monthly stipend from Rs.13,000 to Rs.25,000.

“In the interests of the public, we have deferred the strike for 15 days after receiving written assurances from the State Human Rights Commission saying that the government will hike our stipend, ” said Association spokesman Naqui Imam.
