Woman cheated

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The owner of an electrical gadgets store on Arcot Road was relieved of her gold bangles and some cash on Friday.

Police said G. Vanaja (50) was at the shop when two persons came to buy a water heater. They gave a Rs.500 note following which she sent her staff to get change from a neighbouring shop. The two persons, who claimed to be astrologers, picked up a conversation with Vanaja and said she had a bad time ahead. After they said that a special prayer with some of her gold jewellery would solve the problem, Vanaja gave her two gold bangles. Pretending to be performing some puja, the accused wrapped the bangles in a piece of paper and kept it in the cash box.

A little later when she opened the packet, the bangles were missing. Rs.500 kept in the box was also missing.
