Camaraderie marks NCC Day celebrations

Cadets showcase their skills like tactics exercised during war, horse riding

TIRUPATI: Section-in-Attack Demonstration, skeet shooting, karate demonstration, equestrian marked the 61st NCC Day celebrated at Tirupati on Sunday by the NCC Group, Tirupati. The chief guest, Sri Venkateswara University Vice-Chancellor N. Prabhakara Rao and the Group Commander Colonel Vijay Bakshi witnessed the march past and cultural programmes by cadets of 5 (A) Girls Bn.

The highlight of the day was the Section-in-Attack demo in which NCC senior division cadets in military fatigue carrying weapons participated in a mock war with the enemy forces on the sprawling university parade grounds.

They demonstrated their battle skills and tactics. 11 (A) Air Squadron (T) NCC, Tirupati put up a good show on skeet shooting displaying their skill over weapons. 2 (A) R&V Regiment conducted a horse show where the cadets proved their mettle on ground, while another band of cadets showcased their karate skills.

The Vice-Chancellor addressing the cadets complimented them for their excellent show Colonel Bakshi in his brief welcome address pointed out that of the 17 NCC Directorates in the country, AP Directorate has been the second largest comprising nine groups, which have an enrolled strength of 1.40 lakh cadets with the Tirupati-based NCC Group alone accounting for 15,549 cadets.

Training Officer Lieutenant Colonel Raobinder Singh also participated.

Blood donation camp

Anantapur Staff Reporter writes: The 61st NCC Day was celebrated on Saturday with the 6(A) Girls Batallion, NCC Anantapur organising a blood donation camp on the Indian Red Cross Society premises.

As many as 70 NCC girl cadets belonging to the district donated blood.

Speaking on the occasion, Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Sreedhar Vasudevan complimented the cadets on the gesture shown by them for such a noble cause.

He exhorted them to continue the work and prove that girls are also equally forthcoming for good causes Dr. P. Valli Devi, MD and Indian Red Cross Society Anantapur Town convener T.V.V.N. Subramanyam also spoke on the occasion. Lieutenant K. Prabhakar Reddy and Lieutenant B.V. Ramana Naidu, Associate NCC Officers and other NCC officials participated.

‘Serve country’

Kadapa Special Correspondent writes: Colonel Attar Singh, Commanding Officer of 30 Andhra NCC Battalion, exhorted NCC cadets on Sunday to imbue the traits of discipline, honesty and determination to reach greater heights.

NCC cadets who prove their merit and put in hard work have umpteen opportunities to join the Army and serve the country,

Colonel Singh hoisted the NCC flag, took guard of honour and inaugurated the 61st NCC Day celebrations at the battalion campus here. He lauded cadets who were selected at a recent NCC rally at Anantapur.

An Army rally would be conducted at Kadapa soon and cadets should strive to get selected, Captain C. Vijayabhaskar said. They were being trained at the battalion for the purpose. Director of Pushpagiri School and NCC Officer M. Vivekananda Reddy called upon students to join NCC and serve the national. Colonel Attar Singh presented cash rewards of Rs. 500 each to Lieutenant D. Ali Basha who was adjudged best NCC officer, T. Nagendra Prasad, clerk, Havaldar Sreedhar Reddy and Y. Prasad. Girls rendered the NCC song.

Subedar Major A.K. Pandey, Havaldar Naidu, NCC Officers Chakradhar Raju, K.V. Subba Reddy, P.V. Subba Reddy, Thyagaraju, Harinath Reddy, battalion staff and cadets participated.

India was facing societal problems as well as security threats from terrorists and hence youth should strive for nation-building, in-charge Collector M. Girijasankar said on Sunday.

Speaking at the 61st NCC Day celebrations in Pushpagiri school here, he exhorted the students to join the NCC and become disciplined citizens. NCC Officer M. Vivekananda Reddy administered a pledge to the cadets.
