40 taken ill near Holenarsipur

HASSAN: At least 40 people fell ill after drinking contaminated water from a borewell at Kattehosalli village in Holenarsipur taluk on Friday.

Temporary wards were opened at the Government Primary School in the village on Friday. Twenty-three people are undergoing treatment. Sixteen persons were discharged on Saturday. Jayamma from the village was shifted to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital and later to the Victoria Hospital Bangalore.

District Health Officer Thimmaiah said on Sunday that a medical officer from Holenarsipur visited the village on Thursday following reports that four persons fell ill after drinking water in the morning. He provided treatment and advised people against drinking water from the borewell. But the villagers continued to drink water from it. On Friday, 40 people were taken ill, he said.
