NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday alleged that the Jharkhand government had put the lives of its senior party leader L.K. Advani and National Democratic Alliance convener Sharad Yadav in danger by providing wrong coordinates to the pilot of a helicopter they were travelling in for an election rally in the State. Party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission here and urged it to take stringent action against the State government and its officials responsible for the incident. The two leaders were going from Bokaro to a place called Nallah. The district administration at Bokaro provided the coordinates for the destination, but it proved to be completely wrong. Unable to find the spot where the rally was being held, the pilot finally used the coordinates he had for another place called Goddah and landed there safely. Meanwhile, the chopper had to dangerously hover over a naxalite-affected area for about 45 minutes, he said. Alleging that “it appears to be deliberate mischief,” Mr. Naqvi asked the Election Commission to give strict instructions to the State government to ensure adequate security measures for the leaders of the BJP and its NDA allies.
