Thrissur: Forest Minister Benoy Viswom has said that the changing climate patterns and outbreak of plant diseases are posing a threat to teak plantations. Addressing a three-day international workshop on ‘Production and Marketing of Teakwood: Future Scenarios’ at the Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi, near here, on Monday, the Minister called upon the scientists to focus on developing good quality teak varieties. He said new marketing strategies had to be developed to fetch good price for teak in the international market. Global warming was no more an academic subject, it had a direct impact on common mans life, he noted. As a densely populated State, the availability of land was a huge problem in Kerala.
