ARIYALUR: Collector T. Abraham on Monday inspected the paddy crops raised under System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method at several places in Sendurai block in Ariyalur district and interacted with the farmers about the latest technology being adopted by them in paddy cultivation. The Collector visited the Vanjinapuram panchayat and spoke to Krishnamurthy, a farmer who had successfully cultivated paddy under SRI method. He enquired about the working of the weed remover equipment. He also interacted with Vasuki, a woman farmer at Nakkampadi panchayat. She had achieved the maximum paddy yield of 16,750 kg per acre last year under SRI method. He appreciated the woman farmer for taking up samba paddy cultivation under SRI method this year also. He advised the farmers to take up paddy cultivation under SRI method to get more yield with less cultivation cost than the traditional transplantation method of cultivation. Mr. Abraham also inspected the cement road, burial shed and other works that were completed under the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam in Vanjinapuram. Joint Director of Agriculture Sivakumar, Sendurai Tahsildar Udayakumar and block development, agriculture and revenue department officials accompanied the Collector during his inspection.
