ERODE: Vishwa Mangal Gou Gram Yatra a nation-wide rally aimed at cow protection has given a call to the Union Government to declare cow a national animal.

A release from the rally organisers says the rally begun on September 28 from Kurukshetra, Haryana, to protect cattle, stop migration of youth from villages to towns, restore farmers’ self respect, encourage people to protect cow and make a healthy, loan-free, pollution-free and a strong India. The rally entered Erode on Monday and the organisers held a public meeting here.

The rally will traverse the length and breath of the Country by covering 20,000 km in 108 days, the release says and adds that it will conclude in Nagpur on January 17, 2010. The release also says that indigenous Indian breeds are on the verge of extinction as only 33 of the 100 plus varieties are available. The organisers are also holding a signature campaign as part of the rally.
