Private buses go off the roads

KOCHI: The public were put to hardship as 600-odd private buses kept off the roads as part of the one-day strike called by the coordination committee of bus operators on Tuesday. The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation tried to ease the situation by operating additional 82 trips during the day. Trips were operated to areas like Kumbalanghi, Chellanam, Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Edakochi, Kakkanad, Chittoor and Goshree Island, where the public transport is exclusively handled by private buses. The KSRTC pooled in buses from neighbouring depots to handle the additional trips. —Staff Reporter
